Free-Market or Information

Beginning last year, in 2011, Internet Piracy became a topic of interest in the United States. The issue is balancing between people's right to make money and right to free speech.

The United States has a strong history of capitalism and letting the free-market decide innovation. The internet is able to make an entire body of a person's work available for free. This is creating a huge problem. Why buy anything when it is free?

As a Business Student we learn about incentives to buy and courtesy freebees to build goodwill with consumers. A free pen or calendar is advertising when anyone asks about the pen. Lower costs to new customers equals more people trying out the product to gain regular customers. Businesses are willing to get by without a profit in to gain regular customers and make a profit in the future. This is how companies balance the cost to manufacture products, provide service and pay employees.

People's freedom to speech is important. Is it freedom of speech when copying and pasting what someone else said? They already said it once. While no one really ever says something completely original, they have rights over their expression. On my site I read materials, find associations in my life and reorder everything in a meaningful way that is not exactly the same as what another person said. There are references to how I gain knowledge and sometimes an author's work so another person can identify how my opinion is unique.

Copyright and registration protect intellectual property. If it is free there is no value or method to make money. How similar or dissimilar does content have to be? Wiki protested Internet Piracy laws by blacking-out their website. With the same search I found individual Artist's Websites and Memorials to find information. These websites provide biographies and links to products. Selling products allows them to stay in business. Without Wiki their website was more popular.

Information is available from authorized individuals. Radio Stations are certified and must acknowledge Broadcast Laws wherein Broadcasters make playlists according to available song lists. These lists are approved by Record Companies. Historical commentary on Wiki is an opinion. Links to Official Channels are at the bottom of the page. There are methods to protect Artist and Copyright Holder rights.

Without any copyright or registration search from Wiki, people might post exact quotes without regard to the original author. Though a quote does not reveal the entire body of work of an Author's work, Wiki should have to hire Underwriters or verify the information is an opinion. Otherwise, they float around on the internet making money and their only contribution is an attractive forum for people to communicate with each other.

Individuals have control over what they post on the internet. They decide what their standards are when finding a date, making friends or posting their resume. Business owners and Entrepreneurs need more control intellectual property and freebees to make money. Several people blog and vlog. The common purpose is to express individual life not inhibit an ability to promote products and services from a variety of people wanting to develop a reputation.

There is an abundance of information on the internet. Those not wanting to participate do not have to provide information on the internet. Critics can mention their work and people can purchase products available in stores. The Bill of Rights also protects individual rights. Slander and encroachments on the right to privacy are illegal. Everyone has to be paid to make money for the free-market to work. They make money and buy products with earnings. I make money and buy products with earnings. We pay for products and businesses pay bills and hire employees. Employees save money and prepare for retirement. Not paying for products or services undermines the entire free-market.
