Citizenry and Civility

Scheduling a Mosque to be built near the Twin Towers, New York City, has caused a national stir. The Preamble of United States Constitution states, "We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America." It was disturbing to find a Manhattan Community Board is fighting to restrict a common principle of citizen right, property.

I agree with President Obama. Citizens of the United States bought property and they want to build a church. The real issue is the motivations behind building the Mosque; however, few if any reporters gathered information about the owners. Perhaps they owned the land before 9/11 and waited a ten year grievance before continuing with original plans. If this is the case, it is definitely not a mode of causing problems or harassment. If the land was sold below real estate value, they got a good deal and want to build a Mosque.

Frightening how people assume building a Mosque is a hostile action. People of every race died in 9/11; including, Muslims and those of Middle Eastern decent. Their right to grieve is becoming a debate. Perhaps this Mosque is in eulogy of those they lost. The greater fear and assumption is they specifically bought land near the Twin Towers in order to force an issue over Islamic rights in New York City. Even if they bought the land after the event for regular prices, people are failing to consider all points-of-view in this action.

It is over a decade since the 9/11 incident. During this time, I imagine, many followers of Islamic traditions were harassed and treated unfairly. These people are of Muslim decent and practice the Islamic religion, yet they are not terrorists. They are United States Citizens entitled to all citizen rights. Even if it is a protest, they have the right to free speech.

No matter what happens President Obama has taken the correct stance. Citizens have rights to land and may build whatever they want. Facing a similar problem, the community of Hayden Lake blocked Aryan Nations from moving into the area, which excited the underlying issue.

Is this much different blocking other nationalities from moving into their neighborhoods? Having some historical data on this and related issues we can predict riots will break out. Hopefully, owners of the Mosque call police and police utilize crowd control methods.

They are citizens paying taxes for police protection. For me there is no issue. Any action restricting a citizen's rights it saying, "You are not a Citizen of United States." The federal level of government has already stated citizens are treated equally. This does not guarantee the Mosque will be built.

There are many channels of government, before successfully building the Mosque. Each channel is another test of humanity. Hopefully, we will not repeat the past and Islamic citizen will be reassured they are United States Citizens. This are included as a part of this nation.
