Pregnancy rates in the United States are outrageous. Education often helps people make better decisions; however, content in "Sexual Education" crosses religious boundaries. A class focusing raising children educates and prepares teenagers for a rewarding career in childcare.
Three main points provide a realistic impression of raising children. Child psychology prepares a person in understanding what to expect from a child throughout their growth cycle into adulthood. Technical aspects and monetary needs for raising a child give teenagers quantifiable facts relating to raising children. Making people think about the characteristics they have and would want in a partner helps people identify the traits they want in a life partner. This is an exercise in which a student is allowed to creatively express opinions and does not restrict them to statistical facts.
Child psychology should demand a quarter to a third of the class. Often parents set expectations too high or too low. Struggling to cope with everything at once, they need to learn how to raise children and develop a plan. Any foreknowledge or a rough plan helps lessen stressful and create more productive experiences. Even married couple who planned their first child benefit from this information.
Providing a realistic viewpoint of the capabilities of a child is essential to raising a child. All information provided for child psychology should be based on proven test studies. There are five stages of development. A child experiences all five stages, not always in same order. A child does not have the capability to lie until age seven. (It takes longer for some children.) While a one year old understands gravity, the understanding people do not know how to read your mind, therefore believe what is said, is an advance concept. Children benefit from educational tools made for their age group. Holding a child increases rational abilities, memory and logical functions was proven with lab mice. Unproven theories like talking to them in the womb are not essential.
Technical aspects can be combined with monetary needs. There are many important concerns related to raising children. Do not give a baby raw salt or sugar. Restricting a baby's movement while sleeping can result in suffocation. Even a baby has to have basic survival skills even if as simple as turning their head to avoid suffocating on their own vomit.
We are all familiar with classes showing how to change a diaper. Know how expensive diapers are and how often they need to be changed. That can add up to a surprisingly large amount. There are also expenses: clothes, toys, talcum powder, bottles, formula, safety pins and more. These can be identified and demonstrated.
People may assume costs associated to living on your own like rent are also included as an expense. This topic could be insulting to a person's ethnicity and do not belong in public schools. Many cultures encourage people to live in their family's home regardless of monetary success or age. Therefore, this action places pressure on teenagers to defy cultural values. Though practicing a socially accepted practice they will strive to take care of responsibilities.
Identifying traits of a life partner makes people think about traits they want and whom they are dating. Why engage in intercourse with someone that you would not be comfortable raising children with? Every time a person has intercourse both men and women risk a chance of pregnancy. Having a child links you to another person for an entire life. If a person could not envision raising child they may need to reevaluate life or find a suitable partner. These traits do not have to be identified. This also helps teach teenagers to dismiss personal values and judgments related to assessing parents and gain a greater perspective when working with people's children.
As a teenager I knew a guy who was the same age as me. He had custody of his son. The Mother suffered from drug addictions and her family was poor. When she got pregnant, she did not have the ability to raise the child. His family had the facilities to raise a child. His parents took responsibility for the child; otherwise, she would have given the new born up for adoption. People often overlook the fact that a child belongs to both the mother and father. This class is benefits men and women.
While people may argue government should not have a part in teaching teenagers about birth control, teaching them aspects of raising children is another issue. Careers in Care Giving, Domestic Engineering and Pediatric Care are abundant in the United States. There are also social ramifications of single parents by giving teenagers a realistic idea of what is needed to raise a child successfully. People raised in a loving home are more likely to live productive lives. People are an import part of a functioning country and this resource should not be ignored.
